Iowa Virtual School Program
A Program of the Pocahontas Area Community School District

Welcome to the Iowa Virtual School Program
Dear Families,

As you know, the Iowa Department of Education decided last year to classify the Iowa Virtual School Program (IAVSP) as a homeschool assistance program, rather than a full time virtual school, thereby reducing the school's funding by 40% (compared to other open enrollment programs). With this significant reduction in available resources, the existing IAVSP program was not viable, and K12 and the Pocahontas Area Community School District mutually agreed to end the program as it was initially contemplated (a full-time virtual school), effective at the end of the 2003-2004 school year. (In the meantime, students have been able to continue with their studies.)

While it was hoped that the program would be able to continue in a different form as a homeschool assistance program, the Pocahontas School District voted on May 11 not to continue the Iowa Virtual School Program (IAVSP). Although this conclusion is disappointing, K12 respects the District's decision and appreciates of its leadership and support during the past year. The District has truly been a great partner

If you are interested in continuing with the K12 program, please visit www.K12.com to see how you can use the curriculum as a homeschooling family.
